ABOUT SYNESTHESIA - VIDEO - Text by Marie Deparis
A video project by Sayaka Shoji in collaboration with Pascal Frament, the video director.
At Sayaka Shoji's initiative, a completely original artistic video project - contemporary as well as musical - is born.
"Synesthesia" is a new experience, creating connections between the worlds of classical music and contemporary art that seldom got together but which are opening one to another here.
Sharing with the audience the emotions and the visions that the music generates when she plays, beyond her performance and her stage presence, that is the first desire of Sayaka Shoji, through this video work of 10 sequences as any chapters of a diary. But for her, the point is also, by collaborating with a plastician video director, to give to see some images that are not "documentary", but that are artistic and contemporary.
In the "Synesthesia" Project, the music will not be, as often in the artistic videos, a musical accompaniment. On the contrary, the images will take root into the music and will hold it.
10 preludes from Dmitri Shostakovich, chosen among the 24 preludes opus 34 and performed by Sayaka Shoji, will make the soundtrack of “Synesthesia” whereas the images will be directed by Pascal Frament, video director, in close collaboration with Sayaka.
